Full Information about Lap-Band® diet
Lap-Band® diet is most important part after Lap-Band® surgery. After Lap-Band® surgery your eating behavior totally change and so that your food also. Diet after Lap-Band® surgery is designed in such a way that you will not feel any problem after surgery. When Lap-Band® wrap around your stomach it limit the intake of food so that you are allowed to take selective food item which suits according to your surgery. For Lap-Band® surgery you need to follow pre-op Lap-Band® diet and post op Lap-Band® diet. Pre-op diet makes your body in such condition which is required for surgery. Post op diet designed to heal your body that means diet described by surgeon after Lap-Band® surgery is important because it allow band to settle in to appropriate place and become secure at place. The period for recovery and settling down band is about 2 months and post opt diet is for about 2 months. Within these 2 months your body will recover in very fine way. It heals your stomach structure.
Restriction over diet
After Lap-Band® surgery there would be the restriction over food. As Lap-Band® introduced then the opening as well as stomach pouch gets reduced. This means the amount of food that could normally pass through is also reduced. So that in the small quantity you will feel full and soon you will lose your overweight. There are some complications which arise due to the voiding restriction of diet. So it is must to follow post op Lap-Band® diet.
Pre Lap-Band® diet
Before surgery you are required to follow some diet plan. This is essential to provide body condition in such position that is required for Lap-Band® surgery. You need to follow diet plan one week before surgery. You need to be on liquid diet. Diet is required for care of liver. To reduce fat around liver. Diet also reduced glycogen stored in the liver. Take low carbohydrate food.
Right after surgery
Right after surgery you are allowed to take sip of water or suck on an ice cube, not more than this. Day after surgery you can take little more fluids but it should be in small amount at a time. Water is the best fluid to take but beside water there are also some other fluid which you can take. You should try to drink fluid which has adequate amount of calories. You should not try to drink so much to prevent nausea and vomiting.
During 1 to 2 weeks
During this phase Lap-Band® patients are restricted to only liquid diet. You should drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated but not too much it may cause vomiting which may further leads to the different complications. You should drink less water at a time and don’t drink water in hurry. You can also include soup with no vegetables or meat, skim milk and fruit juice.
During 3 to 4 week
Now you can take some soft food but you still are on liquid. You should choose food with more care. Take pureed food and some texture food. You should try to eat protein enriched food. Take some pureed skinless fish or chicken, peas, mashed potatoes, low-fat yogurt etc. if you feel vomiting or nausea back to liquid phase.
During or after 5 weeks
Now you are totally transacted to food so you need a proper care now. There are some list of food which is required to avoid and some are required to take. This is phase where you can encounter with some problem and complications so you need to be in special attention while choosing the food.
Liquid diet –
Generally in this phase water is more preferred as liquid item but along with this you can also include other liquid as Lap-Band® diet which are low in calories and non-carbonated. Some of the fluids which you can take are tea, Herbal, broth, black coffee with low-calorie sweetener, Protein bullets, non-carbonated beverages with few or no calories, or decaf tea. You can also drink alcohol in small quantity.
Guidelines for Lap-Band® Diet Plan:
- Eat three meals a day in small quantity.
- Chew your food completley.
- Take small bite at once.
- Keep some gap in between two meals.
- Avoid drinking water during meal. drink water 30 minutes before meal.
- Don't take any other item during meals.
- Choose healthy food in your Lap-Band® diet.
- Stop when you feel full.
- Don't lie down after taking diet.
- Meet with your doctor to get list which food should avoid and which not.
