Prescribed and Restriction of Lap-Band® medication
Lap-Band® surgery is the minimally invasive surgery. This is the good choice for such obese people who are failed to lose weight by any other means. After Lap-Band® surgery it is advised to take Lap-Band® medications. As the life style of Lap-Band® patient change so that the way to take medications also change. It is must to use medication which is advised and recommended by surgeon because some kinds of medication can irritate the stomach and lengthen the recovery time. If you have decided to start any new medication then ask it to your surgeon before.
Don’t take tablet or pills whole as there are chances of getting stuck in the newly form passes to stomach by band. Choose Lap-Band® medication liquid or in the chewable form either it is vitamins or calcium supplements. Or while you are taking tablets drink lots of water so that it won’t get stuck. It is recommended to Lap-Band® patients to crush or dissolve tablets in soft foods and drink to make difference in taste. Most of lap bender take Lap-Band® pills as powder.
Patients are not allowed to take medication just followed after surgery. Patients should avoid Lap-Band® medications until one week. Some of the medication may cause problem if you take within the first week of surgery include cholesterol drugs, blood thinners, muscle relaxants and pain medication. Patients should provide their doctors list of medication which they are currently taking at least a month prior to surgery. Take advice from surgeon which medication to avoid before and after Lap-Band® surgery.
Some of the medication causes irritation on stomach after surgery, so it is advised to take suggestion from surgeon before taking this like Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen and naprosyn, but it is highly recommended that not to use such medication.
Aspirin is a kind of medication which should be avoided by patients for at least 48 hours after surgery to reduce the risk of post-surgical bleeding. Some of the medications which include Aspirin are Alka-Seltzer, Vanquish and Excedrin. It might be possible that bleeding still occur if patient take blood thinners and other aspirin medication. It should be stopped to avoid the further risk and complications.
There are some kinds of medication which you need to take after Lap-Band® surgery like medication of diabetes or high blood pressure. Ask to your surgeon whether you can take it or not. You needn’t to take this if your health condition improves due to weight loss. It is advice to avoid medication as much as you can.
