Lap Band slippage is a postoperative complication that occurs while the laparoscopic band slips from its originally inserted position. Slippage may be meek and irregular. In several cases it can be severe and not resolvable resulting in side effects such as nausea, vomiting and decreased intake of food. Two sorts of band slippage takes place –Anterior Slippage and Posterior Slippage. Under Anterior Slippage the stomach’s front slips past the band. While under Posterior slippage the back portion of abdomen wall slides up through the band. In early 90’s anterior slippage incident was quite common in Europe since perigastric technique was used in the time. But now the methods have been changed and the possibility has got minimized.

Identification of slippage:- The diagnosis of band slippage is quite easy to be determined. A person if found to have no problem since long after the surgery and suddenly he suffers through acid reflux or enable eating more than before in spite of having tight band then it implies that the small pouch has got stretched due to overeating and some portion of the stomach has pulled throughout the band.

Treatment:-
• Minor slip – The band needs to get deflated and further in less than one to two weeks the band should get re inflated. â€
¢ Moderate slippage- Deflate the band and operate in order to relocate the band.
• Harsh slip: Deflate the band and operate in order to relocate the band.


Prevention:- • Proper insertion and placement of band by the surgeon. • Diet recommended must be followed strictly. • At least 6 weeks the patient must wait in order to have first adjustment.
