I too, have a lap band and I am now experiencing coughing and vomiting most nights which require me to sleep in a sitting position. I have very little fluid in my band, and it has been occurring only in the last month or so, ive had the band for about 3 years. I also suffer from acid reflux. The vomiting and coughing is not an acid reflux issue.
Answer 1 Sad to know. As every surgery has some complications, lap band surgery is no exception. It is common for people who have undergone such surgery to face some complications. Since you didn’t had this problem for almost 3 years, it is a long term complication. There are various reasons of such problems like band slippage or leak in the band. Yours can be due to the displacement of the band from the original position. If the band slips away from the designated location, coughing and vomiting is expected to happen. Eating before 2 hours of bed time should be avoided. Also make sure that there is no fluid leak.
This can happen and in such a situation it is advisable to consult your surgeon to avoid any further complications. Doing so would give ensure that the real cause is found out and you do not have to face any future complications.
