Answer 1 In fact there are two type of Insurance policy i.e. PPO and HMO. Both the policies are available for Lap band surgery. Unlike PPO where you can select doctor as you wish, in HMO you need a referral from your primary doctor. Once you get refereed from primary doctor, thereafter you can visit the specialists office. It also involve a lot of paperwork. You have to collect all the paperwork from your psychologist, dietitian and surgeon. Most importantly, all these specialists must be in network with Insurance company. If these specialists are not in network with your insurance company then you will get a lot of difficulty. Your entire works not ends at collecting paper work apart from this you will need lap band follow up visit and adjustment after surgery. Every time you have to get referral prior to visit. So in conclusion you can avail HMO lap band surgery but it is very risk.
